Migrants face exceptional monitoring, surveillance and harassment by the police and ICE (Immigration Compliance and Enforcement) officers, through immigration raids, arrest and detention. Emergency government legislation proposes to give new powers to ICE officers, including powers to detain people suspected of being infected with coronavirus. It is not clear at this stage how these powers will be (mis)used. Stories from migrants and evidence from research shows that ICE officers routinely misuse and exceed their legal powers in order to harass vulnerable migrants. It is more important than ever to monitor, report and directly challenge immigration raids. Raids can be resisted if we work together!
